Balzan FC Futsal have recently added some players to bolster their squad in view of their 2012 UEFA Futsal Cup commitment in the second week of August.

Balzan FC’s main aim ahead of their debut in this season’s UEFA competition is to improve upon last year’s results as the team is about to participate in the UEFA Futsal Cup for the third consecutive year.

Balzan FC Futsal will leave Malta in the coming days to participate in the preliminary round, Group A, of this year’s edition of the UEFA Futsal Cup, to be held in Trebinje, Bosnia Herzegovina, between the 7th and the 9th of August 2012. After winning the MFA First Division Futsal League, for the third consecutive year, the technical staff of the team has worked to improve the squad by acquiring the services of new and established Futsal players. The team will again be led by Romanian player coach Florin Anton who has been playing Futsal on a regular basis since his arrival in Malta

Last year’s sour experience with three group losses from three games was yet a learning curve for the team’s administration led by President Mario Vella as he commented: “Last year we went to Macedonia with some key players missing who could not make it with us in the team but we felt that this year we could not repeat the same mistake. We are going to Bosnia Herzegovina with a full compliment of a 12 man squad in view of a win in our first game to keep our chances open for qualification”

Two editions ago our country had hosted the UEFA Futsal Cup, Preliminary Round, Group B, organised at the Cottonera Sports Complex, whereby the Malta team Excess managed to climb up six places in the UEFA Club Rankings. Excess had managed to win the first ever international competitive match by a local Futsal Club and also drew against Tournament winners FS Ilves Tampere from Finland.

In this year’s edition, Balzan FC Futsal will be facing: KMF Leotar Trebinje of BH and Lexmax Chisinau of Moldova in a group of only three teams.
