Champions Valletta take on FA Trophy winners Hibernians in BOV Super Cup

BOV Premier League champions Valletta take on U*BET FA Trophy Hibernians in the BOV Super Cup at the National Stadium on Friday, kick-off at 20:00.

The Paolites won the Euro Cup which was held in June and then faced FK Sarajevo of Bosnia Herzegovina in the UEFA Europa League, losing with a 9-6 aggregate score. Valletta, on the other hand, met FC Lusitans of Andorra in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round, beating them 9-0 on aggregate but in the second qualifying round, they lost to Serbian giants FK Partizan 1-4 at the Hibs Stadium and 1-3 in Belgrade.

Valletta coach Mark Miller could not count on the injured Jonathan Caruana and Denni but new Brazilian striker Leandro Almeida is expected to make his debut. Hibernians, on the other hand, are expected to lack Jonathan Pearson.

The Citizens defeated Floriana 3-0 in last year’s Super Cup. Another triumph on Friday would be the tenth Super Cup for Valletta. Hibernians, on the other hand, won the competition twice – in 1984 and 2007.
