Second edition of Tivoli Cup to be held next Friday

Hamrun Spartans will be facing Birkirkara in the second edition of the Tivoli Cup which will be played on Friday 10th August at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 19:30. Details about this game and a triangular tournament which will be held on Monday were given during a press conference at Cafe Tivoli, Hamrun on Friday.

The Spartans won the first edition which was held last year after defeating Qormi.

Hamrun Spartans vice-president Joseph Fenech said that following a sponsorship from Bulgaria, the Spartans have a relatively new squad and after the boost received from the Sylvano Comvalius case, the club is looking forward towards strengthening the squad further.

Fenech said the club is confident the team will have a good season but the players will keep their feet on the ground.

He thanked Eddie Borg from Cafe Tivoli for sponsoring the cup and thanked Birkirkara for accepting the club’s invitation.

Joseph Fenech announced that a few days before the Tivoli Cup – on Monday 6th Hamrun Spartans will be hosting the Heineken Cup – a triangular tournament featuring two First Division sides – Naxxar Lions and Zejtun Corinthians. The tournament kicks-off at 19:00.

Hamrun Spartans coach Stefan Sultana said the Tivoli Cup will be a good test, just one week before the Premier League kicks-off. He said this was another important step in the team’s preparation as a coach would be making his final choices regarding what would be the ideal formation.

Birkirkara coach Paul Zammit thanked Hamrun Spartans for the invitation and said that such an initiative helps in a team’s preparation ahead of the forthcoming commitments. Zammit said he was satisfied with the players’ attitude so far.

Meanwhile Eddie Borg from Cafe Tivoli said he was honoured to sponsor this event which will hopefully turn out to be an entertaining game.
