Eventful summer for Sliema Wanderers Nursery

The activities organized by the Sliema Wanderers Football Nursery did not slow down during the hot summer season as the Nursery had a hectic and lively program of important events.

Just as season 2011/12 came to a close with the Under 15 winning the Youth F.A. Knock-Out competition, the Under-12 team visited Switzerland during the first days of June to participate in a tournament in Bellinzona in which some top international football Academies took part with the Sliema team obtaining very good results even against these teams.

The Sliema Football Nursery Under-17 and Under-11 teams too had trips abroad as they visited Spain to participate in the Torneo Mediteraneo in Lloret de Mar. This was another great football and social experience for all the players.

The Nursery was busy organizing also the popular Summer Football Fun training sessions for various age groups and to make it more enjoyable for the very young age group some of the sessions had water games included and this proved to be a highlight for the very young participants.

During the EURO 2012, the Nursery put on a number of social evenings so that members and their guests could watch matches on a mega screen set up on the football pitch itself. These evenings proved to be very popular as one enjoyed the matches in the cool comfort provided by the sea breeze during the evenings.

Maybe the most important activity during this summer is a training program a number of Nursery Coaches and Administrative Officials will hold in the U.K. with the support of the Leicestershire & Rutland County Football Association. This training program is part of the E.U. Lifelong Learning program under the Leonardo Da Vinci Mobility program.

In the course of the application stage, the Sliema W. Football Nursery project was supported by MEUSAC.
During this Summer, technical and administrative Nursery staff participated also in an instructional meeting covering two very important aspects of football namely the ‘laws of the game’ and ‘the tricky subject of ‘Anti-Doping’.

Throughout all this activity the Nursery’s competitive teams, namely the Under-15 and Under-17 started their pre season training while all administrative preparations for the new season are being finalized so that the Sliema Wanderers Football Nursery Technical and Administrative staff are fully motivated and look forward to the start of a new successful season towards its mission to assist the young players in their football and social development.
