Citizens aim at returning to winning ways

Valletta will be hoping to bring to an end their winless streak in order to bounce back on top the BOV Premier League table as they take on Tarxien Rainbows in one of the two matches in programme at the Hibernians Stadium on Sunday.

The Citizens were held in three consecutive 1-1 draws by Rabat Ajax, Balzan and Sliema Wanderers, losing the comfortable six-point lead they enjoyed. They are now lying in second place, one point behind Birkirkara.

The Rainbows, on the other hand, are currently seventh and are coming from a 1-2 defeat to Qormi in their last outing.

Tarxien defender Carlo Mamo is ruled out injured. Valletta coach Mark Miller could not count on the injured Steve Borg and Dyson Falzon while Michael Mifsud may be back in squad.

Meanwhile in the first match, Qormi target another three points as they take on Rabat Ajax.

After winning just two points from the previous six matches, Qormi ended this disappointing run with a 2-1 win over Tarxien Rainbows to leapfrog Floriana and move ninth. Another win would enable them to climb another place in the table as Hamrun Spartans lie just two points ahead of the Yellow Blacks.

Rabat Ajax, on the other hand, remain anchored at the bottom of the table with just three points and are still in search of their first win.

Injuries are a major concern for the Magpies as Chris Schembri, Ryan Micallef, Nerijus Astrauskas and Adam Smeir are all ruled out injured. Heiner Backhaus returns after missing the last game due to a one-match ban. For Qormi, Matthew Bartolo is ruled out injured but Joseph Chetcuti wll be back after serving a one-match ban.
