Valletta aim at returning to winning ways

Champions Valletta aim at returning to winning ways on Saturday as they take on Qormi in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.

The Citizens dropped no less than eleven points in the last five matches after being held in draws by Rabat, Balzan, Sliema and Tarxien and losing to Mosta. Points which cost them the leadership in the BOV Premier League table.

They are currently third on 26 points and hope that a win over Qormi would put them back on track after defeating Hamrun Spartans 3-1 in the U*BET FA Trophy third round last week.

For Valletta, this test will be no easy one since Qormi, now under the guidance of former City coach Jesmond Zerafa are coming from three consecutive wins and seek more precious points in their bid to secure a place in the Championship Pool.

Matthew Gauci returns for Qormi after serving a one-match ban.

In the first round, Valletta defeated Qormi 3-0.

Meanwhile in the first match, Rabat Ajax take on Birkirkara.

The Magpies are still in search of their first win, having collected four points in thirteen matches. The squad have been strengthened with the signing of Spanish striker Jose Luis Armario Negrin while Lithuanian forward Nerijus Astrauskas has been released. However Chris Schembri, Adam Smeir and Ryan Micallef are still ruled out injured.

Birkirkara need the three points to move back on top the BOV Premier League table. They dropped two points in a 2-2 draw with Balzan in their last league outing.

Shola Shodiya and Joselito dos Reis are still recovering from injuries.

In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Rabat 2-0.
