BOV Women's Division 1: Hibernians inflict first defeat on Mosta

BOV-Women-First-Division-12-13Champions Birkirkara joined Mosta on top the BOV Women’s First Division as the latter suffered their first defeat, losing 0-1 to Hibernians at the Mgarr Ground. The Paolites, move to just three points behind the leaders.

The clash between Mosta and Hibernians was a most balanced encounter with the all-important goal being scored on the 65th minute after Mosta goalie Sharon Costantino brought Ylenia Carabott down inside the area. From the penalty spot, Carabott converted to hand Hibernians the three points.

In another match from the Championship Pool, Birkirkara beat Gozo 6-0 at the Mgarr Ground.

The Stripes dominated from start to finish, taking the lead after just two minutes through Gabriella Zahra. Rachel Cuschieri doubled the score on 27 minutes and Isabelle Mazzitelli scored a third goal six minutes from the end of the first half.

Twelve minutes in the second half, Cuschieri increased the lead and on the hour, Zahra scored the fifth goal. Kelly Agius Pace sealed the issue with another goal on the 75th.

In the Relegation Pool, Pembroke Athleta and Mgarr United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Pembroke Ground.

With rough winds blowing, the two teams shared the exchanges with play concentrated in midfield. Pembroke took the lead through Thresa Scicluna eight minutes from the end of the first half. Brenda Borg levelled matters ten minutes from time.

Hamrun Spartans registered their first win as they beat Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium.

The Rainbows created several goal-scoring opportunities during the first half but the Spartans defended well. Tarxien managed to take the lead three minutes in the second half thanks to Francesca Cauchi. Amanda Atkins levelled matters on the 65th minute and eleven minutes later, the Spartans notched the winner to take home the three points.

BOV-Women-Second-Division-12-13BOV Women’s Second Division leaders Raiders (Luxol) returned to winning ways as they beat Lija / Iklin 7-0 at the Fgura Ground in a top-bottom clash.

Rodienne Zerafa scored twice during the first half on 22 and 37 minutes but after the break, with the wind blowing in their favour, they added another five goals thanks to Therese Briffa on the 54th, Rodianne Borg on the 57th, Andrea Zammit Mizzi on the 60th, Nadine Agius a minute later and once again Andy Zammit Mizzi three minutes from time.

Goals by Dorianne Bonello on the 34th and Roxanne Galea on the 90th gave Kirkop United a 2-0 win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Tarxien Ground.

Vittoriosa controlled their opponents well and it was only the goal on the 90th that ensured the three points were going in Kirkop’s direction.

Fielding a team of just nine players, St. Venera Yellow Blues found life difficult at the Zebbug Ground, losing 0-5 to Fgura United.

Shana Debono put them ahead on the 9th minute. St. Venera seemed to be able to control their opponents for some time until Veronica Juste notched a hat-trick in ten minutes with goals on the 34th, 40th and 44th. Eliana Gialanze sealed the issue with another goal on the 75th.
