Swieqi United appoint coaches, launch Youths team and Academy

swieqi-united-fcRoberto Debrincat was appointed as First Team Coach of Swieqi United for the 2013/14 season.

Roberto Debrincat returns to Swieqi United, having being First Team Coach in the club’s first and second season. Since then Roberto Debrincat coached Ghaxaq FC and Zurrieq. Dr Daniel McKean was re-appointed Assistant Coach.

Meanwhile Mario Mifsud was appointed as Technical Director. Mifsud has considerable experience, coaching at various clubs and nurseries including Sliema Wanderers, Gzira United, Sta. Lucia, Vittoriosa Stars, Qormi, Gharghur, Luqa St. Andrew’s, Qrendi, Tarxien Rainbows, Siggiewi and Cottonera United.

President Dr Justin Fenech also announced that Swieqi United have also opened applications for players interested in joining the Youths team (which will take part in the MFA Youth League) or the Youth Academy. Applications may be requested from swieqifc@gmail.com. Training will be held at Swieqi United’s new ground in Pembroke.

The Swieqi United Youth Academy will be adopting a “Holistic Approach” to football training. This means that apart from tactical and technical training, focus will also be given to the development of the other key competences needed by professional footballers, such as communication, team work, self-discipline, concentration, mental strength, among others.

Swieqi United aims to give its players a football education that is valuable both on and off the pitch. Swieqi United is also affiliated with Brescia SC Calcio and will be sharing expertise and human resources with the Italian Serie B club.

Dr Justin Fenech concluded by stating that in just 5 years Swieqi United had come a long way. This was thanks to the dedication of its committee members, coaching staff and players. Swieqi United would keep in investing in its structure, aiming to remain innovative and sustainable for the years to come.
