Hibernians lose 3-2 in Novi Sad

Hibernians FCHibernians bowed out of the UEFA Europa League with a good performance despite a 3-2 defeat to FK Vojvodina at the Stadion Karadjordje in Novi Sad. The Serbians move on to the next round with a 7-3 aggregate score and will now meet Honved Budapest who managed to beat Celik Niksic of Montenegro 9-0 in the second leg for a 13-1 aggregate score.

Although Vojvodina managed to take the lead, an own goal and a penalty by Failla turned the score for Hibernians but the hosts scored twice mid-way through the second half to secure victory.

Vojvodina took the lead five minutes from the end of the first half through Enver Alivodic. Following a swift counter-attack Hibernians equalised two minutes later thanks to an own goal by Skuletic.

Two minutes in the second half, the Paolites were awarded a penalty after the goalkeeper fouled Marcelo Dias inside the area. Clayton Failla made no mistake from the penalty spot.

However Vojvodina restores equilibrium on the hour through Petar Skuletic and the same player notched the winner two minutes later.

Edison Luis dos Santos was sent off for Hibernians two minutes from time.
