Third Women's Super Cup win for Hibernians

hibs-win-women-super-cup2013Hibernians won their third Women’s Super Cup after defeating BOV Women’s First Division Champions and Women’s Knock-Out winners Birkirkara 2-1 with the decisive goal being scored four minutes from the end of the second half of extra-time.

The Stripes had an edge over their opponents during the first half but created few goal-scoring opportunities. However they managed to take the lead on 25th thanks to a Rachel CUschieri freekick which gave Hibs goalie Keoney Demicoli no chance.

The second half was a different story with the Paolites showing greater determination and going close to equalising until an assist by Francesca Chircop for Ylenia Carabott saw the latter, entering the area before hitting low past goalkeeper Janice Xuereb.

With the score still 1-1, the game went into extra-time and with the Paolites holding the initiative, four minutes from the end of the second half Kirstie Vella handled the ball inside the area and Ylenia Carabott made no mistake from the resulting penalty.

MFA Senior Vice-President Ludovico Micallef and Deputy General Secretary (Grassroots, Youth Development & Education) Maria Mifsud presented the cup to Hibernians captain Dionne Tonna.
