First Division side Zurrieq FC presented their new signings during a press conference which was held at the club premises on Wednesday. New signings include four foreigners, namely Zvezdan Vukovic, Jovan Vukanic, Joris Garnier and Osy Lucky Agboebina.
President John Farrugia said the club has strengthened the squad as they aim at giving a good challenge in Division 1 after securing promotion at the end of last season. Farrugia said the club was satisfied with the results obtained so far and the performance in these two matches. Zurrieq held Zebbug Rangers in a 2-2 draw before registering a comfortable 3-0 win over Gudja United last week. He went on to say that the club will continue to work hard so that the team establishes itself in Division 1, hoping for more success in the future.
Zurrieq coach and former Malta international player David Carabott said that after more than a decade in the lower divisions, the club managed to secure promotion and was now moving in the right direction. He said the main objective is to retain their status in Division 1. He said the club strengthened the squad with the players they needed and these new signings have settled down well. Carabott stressed that these new players were all players on whom the club could build for the future.
This summer, Glenn Bonello, Matthew Cocks, Matthew Schembri and Karl Magro who were on loan with the club from Senglea Athletic, Gzira United, Pietà Hotspurs and Hamrun Spartans respectively joined the club on a permanent transfer. Veteran Stefan Giglio joined the club after spending last season with Balzan. Gary Inguanez joins Zurrieq on loan from Hibernians while Tonio Damato joins the club from Kirkop United.
Zvezdan Vukovic returns with the club after playing for Zejtun Corinthians while Jovan Vukanic signs for Zurrieq after playing for Hamrun Spartans and Melita. Osy Lucky Agboebina, who started the season with Naxxar Lions, had a most successful spell with St. George’s in Division 2 last year. The other foreigner is young French defender Joris Garnier.
Reuben Debono has been appointed goalkeepers’ coach.
