BOV Division 1: Zejtun Corinthians shock Melita

bov-first-division-2013-2014Melita suffered their first defeat in the BOV First Division as a penalty on the 90th minute by Ryan Previ gave Zejtun Corinthians a dramatic 2-1 win.

Julian Galea put the Amateurs ahead on 66 minutes and Elton Vella levelled matters before Previ notched the winner for Zejtun.

In the first match, Pietà Hotspurs defeated neighbours Hamrun Spartans 3-1.

Christian Grech put the Hotspurs ahead on the 13th but three minutes later, Antonio Pignataro levelled matters for Hamrun. Three minutes from the end of the first half, Cleavon Frendo made it 2-1 for Pietà and Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna sealed the issue with a third goal on 77 minutes.

Melita lead the way with 9 points, followed by Pietà on 8, St. Andrews 7, Lija 6, Gzira, Zebbug, Zejtun and Zurrieq 4, Gudja and Birzebbuga 3, St. George’s, Msida 1 and Hamrun -7.
