BOV Division 1: Hotspurs move first

bov-first-division-2013-2014Pietà Hotspurs moved temporarily on top the BOV First Division table thanks to a comfortable 4-0 win over Zejtun Corinthians.

Jurgen Pisani put the Hotspurs ahead, Quilin Refalo doubled the score, Terence Agius made it 3-0 and Pietà sealed the issue with a goal by Cleavon Frendo.

In another match, Christian Cassar converted two first-half penalties as Gzira United defeated Zebbug Rangers 2-0 to collect three precious points at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Cassar converted a penalty on the 7th and another two minutes from the end of the first half. Zebbug goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia was sent off on the 43rd minute. Another Zebbug player, Melvin Farrugia, was sent off nine minutes in the second half.

Pietà Hotspurs lead the way with 11 points, followed by St. Andrews 10, Lija and Melita on 9, Gzira, St. George’s and Zebbug 7, Birzebbuga 6, Zurrieq and Zejtun 4, Gudja 3, Msida 1 and Hamrun -7.
