BOV Division 1: Hotspurs rescue a point thanks to late penalty

pieta-lija131130BOV First Division leaders Pietà Hotspurs rescued a point thanks to a penalty in the dying minutes for a 1-1 draw with Lija Athletic in one of the four matches in programme on Saturday.

Evano Briffa put Lija ahead but a penalty by Christian Grech handed Pietà a point.

Msida St. Joseph came back from two goals down to beat Gudja United 4-2. Anthony Ewurum and Mauro Brincat put Gudja two goals ahead after just nineteen minutes but an own goal, a goal by Pellegrino Albanese and two goals by Ayrton Azzopardi gave Msida their first win.

msida-gudja131130Zejtun Corinthians scored six as they beat Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 6-2. Elton Vella and Aleksandrs Cekulajevs scored two each with Alan Abela and Margeith Scicluna adding the other two goals. Claudio Calleja and Pierre Grima scored the goals for Birzebbuga.

St. George’s and Gzira United shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. The Saints went two goals ahead through Emerson Amaira and Mendy Abdul Razak but the Maroons restored equilibrium with a good comeback thanks to a goal by Martin Kotyza and an own goal. St. George’s regained the lead through Jhonathan Bernardo Mariano but Gzira levelled matters with a goal by Simon Shead to earn a point.

Pietà lead the way with 18 points, followed by Melita and Lija on 13, St. Andrews and Zebbug 11, Zejtun and Birzebbuga 10, St. George’s and Gzira 9, Zurrieq and Gudja 7, Msida 4 and Hamrun -3.
