Women's national team loses to Serbia

women-malta-serbia140213The Malta women’s national team lost 0-3 to Serbia in another match from Group 3 of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup European qualifying round at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday.

A goal by Jovana Damjanovic after just three minutes paved the way for the visitors who were chasing their first win in the group. Jelena Cubrilo doubled the score seven minutes from the end of the first half.

Late in the game, Malta pushed for a consolation goal, going close twice through Dorianne Theuma but Serbia scored the third goal thanks to Jelena Cankovic six minutes from time.

The next game for Malta is away to Switzerland on April 5. Switzerland lead the group with maximum points from four matches thanks to a 9-0 win over Serbia and three away wins – 2-0 over Iceland, 1-0 over Denmark and 5-0 over Israel.
