Tricky tests for Birkirkara, Valletta

mosta-bkara130915Leaders Birkirkara take on Mosta while Valletta face Hibernians as the top four teams in the BOV Premier League cross swords on Sunday.

In the first match, champions Birkirkara seek a fourth win over Mosta this season but they know quite well that it will be no easy match as last season, a draw with the Blues almost cost them the title.

After dropping five points in a defeat to Hibernians and a draw with Valletta, the Stripes bounced back with a narrow win over Balzan in their last outing.

Mosta target a positive result from this game as they chase a historic place in the UEFA Europa League after draws with Valletta, Sliema and Hibernians and a win over Balzan put them in fourth place.

The Blues could not count on the suspended Omar Borg and Bojan Kaljevic while Joseph Zerafa is ruled out through suspension for Birkirkara.

In the previous rounds, Birkirkara beat Mosta 3-1, 2-1 and 4-0.

Meanwhile in the second match, Valletta take on Hibernians.

The Citizens are coming from twelve consecutive positive results – eight wins and four draws – but against Hibs, only a win would do in order not to allow Birkirkara to extend the lead. They defeated Sliema 2-0 last week.

Hibs lie comfortably in third place although they were held in a draw by Mosta last week. Jurgen Borg and Scott Chircop are ruled out injured and Jonathan Pearson is suspended.

After beating Valletta 3-2 in the first round, Hibs lost the other two games 1-2 and 1-3.
