After the appointment of Gilbert Agius as new coach, Valletta secured the services of goalkeeper Nicky Vella from Tarxien Rainbows. This signing marks a return to the club as he has already spent three years at the club.

In fact, a product of San Gwann Youth Nursery, Nicholas Vella joined Valletta in season 2008/09. However after spending three years mainly on the bench as second goalkeeper, he joined Tarxien Rainbows in summer 2011.

In his first two years at the Rainbows, he had the fight for the number one shirt with goalkeeper David Cassar, playing around half the matches but this year, he established himself as the top choice at Tarxien.

Nicholas Vella is a member of the Malta national team squad played for the Malta Under-19 national team and also formed part of the Under-21 national team.

Meanwhile Tarxien Rainbows are expected to conclude the transfer of defender Owen Bugeja from Qormi.

A product of Floriana, Bugeja joined Qormi last season.
