Joe Sammut, Michael Cutajar elected to Executive Committee

MFA-HeadquartersJoe Sammut of Pietà Hotspurs and Michael Cutajar of St. George’s were elected to the Executive Committee of the Malta Football Association to represent Member Clubs in general during the association’s Annual General Meeting which was held on Tuesday at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana.

This was the only election necessary for the Ordinary Members of the Executive Committee as the number of candidates for the other posts of Ordinary Members were equal to the number of vacancies.

Seven candidates were in the run for the two seats of Council Members in representation of Member Clubs in general in the Executive Committee. Joe Sammut obtained 70 votes while Michael Cutajar beat Paul Spiteri of Valletta by just one vote, 37 to 36; Stephen Abela of Hibernians obtained 24 votes, Mauro Miceli of Swieqi United 20 and Johann Vella of Sta. Venera Lightings 15 votes.

Grech and Spiteri had been serving on the Executive Committee over the past year in the case of Grech and for a very long period of time for Spiteri.

There will be a number of new faces in the Executive Committee Redeno Apap (Qormi) and Adrian Delia (Birkirkara) will be representing Premier League clubs while Dr Angelo Chetcuti (Birzebbuga St. Peter’s) and Paul Falzon (St. Andrews) will represent First Division clubs. Apap, however, had served in the Executive Committee in past.

Manuel Gauci (Zabbar St. Patrick) will continue to represent Second Division clubs and joining him will be Victor Cassar (Hamrun Spartans) who was already serving on the Executive Committee.

Raymond Micallef (Attard) and Paul Sammut (Santa Lucia) will continue to represent Third Division clubs. Lawrence Aquilina (Malta Football Coaches Association) and Lino Bartolo District Football Leagues were also confirmed to represent Member Associations while Alvin Grech and Joe Micallef will continue to represent the Gozo Football Association and the Youth Football Association.

The the ordinary members of the Executive Committee for season 2014/15 will be:
Premier League: Redeno Apap (Qormi) and Adrian Delia (Birkirkara);
First Division: Dr Angelo Chetcuti (Birzebbuga St. Peter’s) and Paul Falzon (St. Andrews);
Second Division: Manuel Gauci (Zabbar), Victor Cassar (Hamrun Spartans);
Third Division: Raymond Micallef (Attard), Paul Sammut (Santa Lucia);
Member Clubs in general: Michael Cutajar (St. George’s), Joseph Sammut (Piet&agrave:);
Member Associations: Lawrence Aquilina (MFCA), Lino Bartolo (District Football Leagues);
Gozo FA: Alvin Grech
Youth FA: Joe Micallef
