Futsal: Impressive wins for Naxxar, Mellieha

Naxxar Lions kicked off their FXDD Futsal First Division League commitments with an impressive 7-2 win against Siggiewi as another round of matches was held at the Corradino Pavilion.

Despite going a goal down, Naxxar turned the tables and succeeded to score the decisive goals that gave them the first three points of the season. A brace by Khail Drago and goals from Adrian Fenech, Daniel Brincat, Ryan Mifsud, Christian Wismayer and Andrew Catania scored the goals that mattered for Naxxar.

Nikolay Filipov scored five goals as Mellieha thrashed Mqabba 8-1 to register their second win of the season. The Bulgarian produced another exceptional performance for his team as Mellieha dominated for long stretches of the match.
A brace by Radoslav Kovachev and a goal by Craig Pickard completed the scoreline for the Sky Blues who have maximum points after two matches.

In an evenly contested match, Sirens and Qrendi shared the spoils in an entertaining 4-4 scoreline. Sirens broke the deadlock after one minute and always managed to gain the advantage with Qrendi always balancing the affairs. In the second half, Qrendi’s captain, Antonello Brincat inspired his team with two quickfire goals to put them in front but Sirens managed to find the equalizer that helped them grab the first point of the competition. James Tabone scored a brace, Etienne Bonnici and a penalty by James Tabone were the goal-getters for Sirens. Qrendi replied back with two braces by Antonello Brincat and Maxime Landais.

Meanwhile Luqa St. Andrew’s defeated Mdina Knights 3-1 in another match.
