Senglea Athletic and San Gwann closed in on leaders Hamrun Spartans in the BOV Second Division as Steve D’Amato’s side dropped their first points after being held in a 2-2 draw by rivals Marsa on Saturday.

In front of a packed Victor Tedesco Stadium, Hamrun Spartans and Marsa shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. The Spartans managed to take the lead on the 13th minute when Jake Grech beat the offside trap to advanced inside the area, serving Saturday Nanapere who slotted the ball past the Marsa goalkeeper. Marsa equalised on the 33rd thanks to a direct freekick by Vilson Caushi from the left which gave Debattista no chance.

Hamrun regained the lead eight minutes later when Rodney Refalo was brought dowin inside the area with Alan Tabone converting from the penalty spot. However on the 63rd minute, Marsa levelled matters as the Hamrun goalkeeper failed to hold the ball from a freekick and Ronnie Celeste tapped the ball home from close range.

Senglea Athletic registered an impressive 5-0 win over Gharghur. Audgustine James Obaje put Senglea ahead on the 18th with Timmy Thomas doubling the score just before the end of the first half. Terence Scerri made it 4-0 on 63 minutes before Timmy Thomas added another two goals on the 68th and 74th.

A goal by Jan Tanti eleven minutes from time enabled San Gwann to defeat Swieqi United 1-0.

Zabbar St. Patrick scored three in the first half to beat Dingli Swallows 3-0, thanks to goals by Alan Ellul on the 4th, Shalon Diacono on the 15th and Dylan Micallef on the 44th.

In other matches, Sirens beat Xghajra Tornados 3-1 while Mellieha beat Ghaxaq 2-0 thanks to goals by Kyle Simiana and Stephane Sylla.

Hamrun lead the way with 13 points, followed by Senglea and San Gwann on 12, Gharghur and Mellieha 10, Zabbar and Marsa 8, Swieqi 7, Sirens 6, Zejtun and Siggiewi 4, Ghaxaq and Dingli 3 and Xghajra 0.
