Malta climbs one place in FIFA Ranking

Malta ended 2014 in the 147th place in the last FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for 2014. Therefore Malta climbed another place after climbing nine places nine month thanks to the 1-1 draw with Bulgaria.

However among the other European countries, Malta is still ranked third from bottom, ahead of San Marino (179, up 1) and Andorra (201). Lying just ahead of Malta are Moldova (121, down 1), Georgia (125, up 1), Luxembourg (128, up 1), Liechtenstein (132, down 2), Azerbaijan (135) and Kazakhstan (139).

Meanwhile in this last edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, the top 20 remains unchanged. FIFA World Cup™ holders Germany retained a comfortable lead over Argentina and Colombia, followed by Belgium, the Netherlands and Brazil.

It is only the second time since 1993 that the Germans have finished a year on top, securing them the title of Team of the Year for 2014. They also win the title of Best Mover of the Year, thanks to their gain of 407 points – more than any other team.

Other teams that can look back with satisfaction on a successful year are Slovakia (21st, up 334 points) and Belgium (4th, up 319 points).
