BOV Division 3: Mgarr close in on Kirkop after winning top-of-table clash

Mgarr United came from behind to beat Kirkop United 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash in the BOV Third Division to narrow the gap to just one point.

Jotham Ayodeji Adeniran put Kirkop ahead on 36 minutes but Mark Abela equalised five minutes later and ten minutes in the second half, Abela notched the winner.

Qrendi moved third thanks to a 2-1 win over Mtarfa.

Clayton Caruana put Qrendi ahead on the half-hour. Mauro Busuttil converted a penalty to level matters for Mtarfa but Dassier Sammut notched the winner on 66 minutes.

Santa Lucia registered a 4-2 win over Luqa St. Andrew’s. Mohammed Senussi Telessi put Santa Lucia two goals ahead by scoring on the 10th and 38h. Thirteen minutes in the second half, Malcolm Coleiro pulled one back but Senussi added another on 72 minutes. Lydon Sciberras scored a second goal for Luqa five minutes from time but Jean Claude Annati converted a penalty on the 90th to secure the three points for Santa Lucia.

A goal by Liam Carter on the 13th and Jacob Camilleri on the 19th enabled Kalkara to beat Ta’ Xbiex 2-1 with Andrew Xuereb scoring a consolation goal on the 71st.

Goals by Darren Farrugia five minutes in the second half and Mark Grech three minutes later enabled Sta. Venera Lightnings to beat Marsaxlokk 2-0.

Marsaskala defeated Mdina Knights 2-1. Denis Sytnik put Vesko Petrovic’s side ahead on 33 minutes and although Kurt Farrugia equalised on the 45th, Claudio Pace secured the three points for Marsaskala on the 90th.

Kirkop lead the way with 30 points, followed by Mgarr on 29, Qrendi 25, Santa Lucia 24, Mtarfa and Attard 22, Sta. Venera 21, Marsaskala 20, Kalkara 17, Mdina 13, Luqa 10, Marsaxlokk 9 and Ta’ Xbiex 6.
