BOV Division 1: St. Andrews regain sole leadership

St. Andrews regained sole leadership in the BOV First Division as they beat Lija Athletic 4-1 in one of two matches in programme on Saturday.

Player-coach Brian Said put St. Andrews ahead on 28 minutes and just before half-time, Joseph Farrugia converted a penalty to double the score. Erjon Beu pulled one back on 68 minuets but nine minutes later, Michael Johnson made it 3-1 with Mark Scicluna sealing the issue with a fourth goal four minutes from time.

Meanwhile Fgura United claimed another three points as a goal eleven minutes from time by Ryan Previ enabled them to beat Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0.

This was the fourth consecutive win for Ramon Zammit’s side and the twelfth consecutive positive result.
St. Andrews lead the way with 36 points, followed by Pembroke on 33, Gzira and Fgura 32, Gudja 30, Melita 29, St. George`s and Lija 25, Vittoriosa 23, Mqabba 22, Rabat 21, Msida 14, Zurrieq 11, Birzebbuga 9.
