BOV Division 3: Sole leadership for Mgarr — Qrendi move second

Mgarr United take sole leadership in the BOV Third Division after winning a top-of-the-table clash with Santa Lucia. Kirkop United suffered a third defeat in four matches, losing to Attard while Qrendi move second thanks to an impressive win over Marsaxlokk.

Mgarr defeated Santa Lucia 2-1 in a clash between two of the teams who were sharing the top spot. Christian Farrugia put Santa Lucia ahead on the 13th, Joseph Paul Zammit equalised two minutes in the second half and two minutes later, Matthew Muscat made it 2-1.

Attard came from behind to beat Kirkop United 2-1. Michael Zammit put Kirkop ahead after just two minutes but one minute in the second half, Matthew Borg levelled matters and Malcolm Tirchett notched the winner on the 62nd.

Qrendi registered a most comfortable 7-1 over Marsaxlokk. Antoine Sacco scored twice on the 10th and the 15th to put Qrendi two goals ahead. Dylan Zarb made it 3-0 on the 34th and one minute from half-time, Dennis Di Maio made it 4-0. Emmanuel Caruana pulled one back for Marsaxlokk on the hour but Clayton Caruana restored a four-goal lead on the 75th. Dennis Di Maio increased the lead further with two goals on the 84th and 86th.

Kalkara defeated St. Venera Lightnings 1-0 to claim the third win in four matches. Lizio Grech scored the all-important goal on the 13th minute.

Top-scorer Denis Sytnik scored the only goal on the 28th minute as Marsaskala defeated Ta’ Xbiex 1-0.

Mtarfa and Luqa St. Andrew’s shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Mgarr lead the way with 36 points, followed by Qrendi on 34, Kirkop and Santa Lucia 33, Mtarfa 30, Attard 29, Marsaskala 27, Kalkara 24, Sta. Venera 22, Mdina 17, Luqa 14, Marsaxlokk 10 and Ta’ Xbiex 6.
