Xewkija Tigers move four points clear

Xewkija Tigers moved an important step towards securing the championship in Gozo after defeating rivals Nadur Youngsters 3-1 in a top-of-the-table clash in the Melita First Division on Sunday.

John Camilleri put the Tigers ahead on 34 minutes but Brandon Said equalised on the 64th. However eight minutes from time, Daniel Bogdanovic made it 2-1 for Xewkija with Chris Camilleri adding another five minutes later.

In another match from the Championship Pool, Kercem Ajax and Victoria Hotspurs shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Petar Kyumyurdzhiev put Kercem ahead on the 19th but Keith Bonello equalised five minutes in the second half.

In the Relegation Pool, Sannat Lions were condemned to playing in Division 2 after losing 0-1 to SK Victoria Wanderers. Sunday Baala scored the all-important goal on the 61st.

St. Lawrence Spurs defeated Oratory Youths 2-1 in another match on Saturday. Thiago Dos Santos put the Youths ahead on the 20th but a brace by Michael Matthias Uzor on 34 and 67 minutes gave the Spurs the three points.

Meanwhile in the Melita Second Division, Ghajnsielem were declared champions on Thursday after defeating Qala Saints 3-1. Michael Bezzina put the Blacks ahead and although Christian Portelli equalised, another goal by Bezzina and another by Kenny Hili gave Ghajnsielem the three points.

In another match, Zebbug Rovers beat Gharb Rangers 4-2. A brace by Manwel Cordina put Zebbug two goals ahead but Gharb hit back with goals by Paul Anthony Attard and Frank Attard. However Zebbug regained the lead through Alex Tramboo and Christian Vella secured victory.
