Tarxien return to winning ways

A goal deep into stoppage time enabled Tarxien Rainbows to return to winning ways as they beat Naxxar Lions 1-0 and move two points ahead of Pietà Hotspurs and Zebbug Rangers who now share the bottom place on the 12-point mark.

For the Rainbows, this was the first positive result in a number of weeks after suffering seven consecutive defeats. It was also the third win for Tarxien over the Lions this season. On the other hand, for Naxxar, this was a highly disappointing result as they were hoping to move closer to safety.

Naxxar had the first attempt at goal on the 5th minute with a Frank Temile effort hitting the woodwork. Ibok Edet went close with a header on 31 minutes but seven minutes later, Jose Angel tested substitute goalkeeper Luke Pecorella with a fine shot.

Jose Angel was unlucky to hit the crossbar with a cross shot from the right on 84 minutes for Tarxien.

However two minutes in added time, off a cross by Jose Angel, Edu Vallecillo headed home past Pecorella.
