BOV Division 3: Kirkop join Mgarr on top

Kirkop United joined Mgarr United on top the BOV Third Division as they defeated Santa Lucia and Mgarr were held in a draw by Sta. Venera Lightnings. In their final matches next week, Kirkop will be facing Marsaskala and Mgarr take on Attard in the games which may determine which way will the championship go.

A goal in the 91st minute by Ryan Vella enabled Mgarr United to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with St. Venera Lightnings after Andrew Hili had put the Lightnings ahead on the 43rd minute.

An early penalty by Michael Theuma after just three minutes paved the way for Kirkop as they beat Santa Lucia 3-1. Mohammed Senussi equalised on the 56th but Theuma scored again on the 75th before Kirsten Farrugia made it 3-1 on the 90th.

Marsaskala came from behind to beat Qrendi 3-2. Denis Di Maio put Qrendi ahead on 39 minutes but three minutes in the second half, Steve Buhagiar levelled matters. Clayton Caruana restored the lead for Qrendi six minutes later but goals by Claudio Pace and Joseph Ononuju on the 82nd and 91st handed the Southseasiders the three points.

Marsaxlokk and Mdina Knights shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, goals by Thomas Grech on the 27th for Marsaxlokk and Daniel Cluett four minutes later for Mdina.

Luqa St. Andrew’s beat Kalkara 1-0 courtesy of a Wayne Busuttil goal on 57 minutes.

In another match, Malcolm Tirchett scored on the 68th minute to give Attard a narrow win over Ta’ Xbiex.

Kirkop and Mgarr lead the way with 49 points, followed by Qrendi on 45, Attard 41, Santa Lucia 38, Marsaskala 36, Mtarfa 33, Sta. Venera 32, Kalkara 26, Mdina 23, Marsaxlokk 18, Luqa 17 and Ta’ Xbiex 7.
