BOV Division 1: Comfortable win for Zurrieq in clash between relegated sides

Zurrieq bid farewell to the BOV First Division with a 5-2 win over Msida St. Joseph in a clash between two of the three relegated sides.

Aaron Agius put Zurrieq ahead on the 6th minues and Joseph Okonkwo doubled the score a minute later. Msida hit back with goals by Zvezdan Vukovic on the 44th and Isaac Chircop three minutes in the second half. However Zurrieq regained the lead on on 59 minutes thanks to another goal by Joseph Okonkwo with Joseph JoJo Ogunuppe scoring twice on the 70th and 73rd.

Rabat Ajax defeated the other relegated side, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0 thanks to a goal by Chris Vella on the 70th.

On the other hand, a goal by Abeeb Abiodun Williams on the half-hour gave Fgura United a 1-0 win over Vittoriosa Stars.

Pembroke ended their commitments on 55 points, followed by St. Andrews on 51, Gzira and Melita 45 Fgura 43, St. George’s and Gudja 41, Vittoriosa and Lija 38, Mqabba 36, Rabat 29, Zurrieq 22, Msida 15 and Birzebbuga 12.

The decider for third place between Gzira United and Melita will be played on Sunday 3rd May at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 16:00 with the winner facing the team placing tenth in the Premier League in the BOV Premier League Relegation Play-Off on Friday 15th May at the Hibernians Stadium.
