Miccoli signs one-year deal with Birkirkara

Former Italian national team striker Fabrizio Miccoli joins Birkirkara after signing a one-year deal with the club.

Miccoli played for Lecce in the Lega Pro last season, scoring three goals in seventeen matches.

He is the second signing for Birkirkara this summer after Slovenian striker Vito Plut.

Thirty-five year old Fabrizio Miccoli was on the books of Milan when he was still a thirteen year old but eventually moved to Casarano where he had his first experience of senior football. He then moved to Ternana in the Serie B where he spent four years. In 2002, he was transferred to Juventus but was loaned to Perugia in order to gain more experience. Back with the Bianconeri, he scored eight goals in 25 matches. In summer 2004, he joined Fiorentina in joint-ownership with Juventus. He scored twelve in thirty-five matches for the Viola.

The following summer, Juventus bought Fiorentina’s share but Miccoli was sent on loan to Benfica where he spent two years. He returned to Italy in 2007 to join Palermo where he spent six years, eventually becoming club captain. In summer 2013, Miccoli moved to his home-town Lecce to play in the Lega Pro.

Meanwhile Birkirkara FC will be presenting the Senior Team Players on Thursday at the Infetti Training Centre.

With the Stripes kicking of their UEFA Commitments next week, preparations are in full-swing. The Club’s new signings, together with the rest of the squad and the technical staff will be presented on stage. The Club’s President, Dr. Adrian Delia will address those present.

The event will start at 17:00 with bingo. Entrance for the Club’s paid members will be free. The Club will also be accepting memberships during the event.
