UEFA has appointed former international referee Victor Mintoff as the referee observer of the Regions’ Cup Final between Eastern Region (Republic of Ireland) and Zagreb Region (Croatia), being played on Saturday at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin. On the other hand, MFA Vice-President Ludovico Micallef has been appointed as UEFA Delegate for the match.
The appointed match officials are referee Nikolaj Hanni (Switzerland), assistant referees Rien Vanyzere (Belgium) and Danijel Devic (Montenegro), and Fourth Official Dzianis Shcharbakou (Belarus).
Victor Mintoff’s reaction to the first time that Malta will have a referee observer at a UEFA Final was one of enormous satisfaction: “I am very happy for myself and the MFA Refereeing Department. This is one of the proudest moments of my refereeing career, spanning over 40 years – around 25 years as a referee and another 15 years as an assessor. A once in a lifetime experience.”
