BOV Division 1: Hamrun win seven-goal thriller

Hamrun Spartans bounced back from the loss of the protest over the game against Fgura United last week as they defeated San Gwann by the odd goal in seven in a match from the BOV First Division at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.

Hamrun managed to go three goals ahead thanks to goals by Alan Tabone on the 26th, a penalty by Alan Tabone on the 42nd and Haruna Garba early in the second half but San Gwann made an impressive comeback with three goals to level matters through a brace by Felix Udoh Okon on 69 and 72 minutes and a goal by Shaun Vella on the 76th. However the Spartans hit a late winner through Haruna Garba on the 78th to take home the three points.

In another match, Senglea Athletic beat Melita 3-1.

Miguel Ciantar put Senglea ahead on the 9th minute. Aud-Gustine James Obaje doubled the score on the 18th but eight minutes in the second half, Jean Pierre Attard pulled one back for the Amateurs. However on the 90th minute, Obaje added another for Senglea to put victory beyond any doubts.

At the Centenary Stadium, Rabat Ajax defeated Lija Athletic 2-1. Lawrence Chiedozie put Rabat ahead on 26 minutes but three minutes from the end of the first half, Lija equalised thanks to a penalty by Erjon Beu. David Azzopardi notched the winner for Rabat on the 76th.

In another match, Zebbug Rangers defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-0 thanks to goals by Christian Carl Pace on the 29th and Raimi Bakare three minutes in added time.

Senglea, Gzira and Rabat lead the way with six points, followed by Zebbug on 4, Fgura, Gudja, Pietà, St. George’s, Melita and Hamrun 3, San Gwann 1, Lija, Vittoriosa and Mqabba 0.
