Gozo Football League kicks-off

The Gozo Football League kicked-off this weekend with the first three matches from the First Division and the first three matches from the Second Division.

On Friday, champions Xewkija Tigers and newly-promoted Ghajnsielem shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. The Blacks took a two goal lead thanks to a penalty by Joseph Vella on 56 minutes and a goal by Charles Hili on the hour. Xewkija had a player sent off but pulled one back through Thiago dos Santos on the 70th and Daniel Bogdanovic notched a dramatic equaliser two minutes in added time.

On Sunday, SK Victoria Wanderers defeated St. Laurence Spurs 2-0 thanks to goals by Eric Chidi Nwankwo on the 63rd and a penalty by David Udo Monday on the 90th.

On the other hand, a goal by Miguel Montano eight minutes in the second half gave Victoria Hotspurs a narrow win over Kercem Ajax.

In the Second Division, Nadur Youngsters were held in a 2-2 draw by Munxar Falcons on Friday. Daniel Pace put Munxar ahead on the 4th and Ryan Meilak levelled matters on the 43rd. Pace scored again for Munxar seven minutes in the second half and although Nadur had a player sent off, Saviour Attard equalised when he converted a penalty four minutes in added time.

On Saturday, Sannat Lions defeated Zebbug Rovers 4-0 thanks to goals by Eric Gauci on the 18th, Josiah Buttigieg on the 30th, Mark Muscat on the 80th and Antoine Camilleri two minutes in added time.

In another match, a goal by Marlon Mamo on the 76th minute gave Xaghra United a narrow win over Gharb Rangers.
