Champions Xewkija Tigers suffered their first defeat in the Gozo Football League First Division as they lost 3-2 to Kercem Ajax on Sunday.
Claudio Antunes put Kercem ahead on the 7th and nine minutes later, Malcolm Vella doubled the score. Xewkija had a player sent off but still managed to level matters thanks to a brace by Daniel Bogdanovic on the 48th and 52nd. Claudio Antunes made it 3-2 on the 59th and Thierry Tazameta had the opportunity to restore equilibrium but his penalty five minutes from time was parried by the Kercem goalkeeper.
Victoria Hotspurs take the top spot after beating SK Victoria Wanderers 1-0 in the derby. Miguel Montano scored the all-important goal two minutes from time when he converted a penalty.
In another match, Oratory Youths beat St. Laurence Spurs 2-0 thanks to goals by Manwel Cordina on the 12th and Andre Azzopardi on the 74th.
In the Gozo Football League Second Division, leaders Xaghra United moved four points clear on Sannat Lions as they defeated them 1-0 thanks to a goal by Malcom Mamo on the 57th.
Qala Saints join Sannat in second place as they beat Zebbug Rovers 2-1. Frank Attard put Zebbug ahead on 32 minutes but Qala turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Manuel Buttigieg on the 34th and Dylan Bellotti on the 82nd.
In another match, Gharb Rangers and Munxar Falcons shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
