Xewkija Tigers take top spot

Xewkija Tigers bounced back from last week’s defeat to Kercem Ajax as they defeated leaders Victoria Hotspurs 2-1 in the Gozo Football League First Division on Sunday.

Daniel Bogdanovic put Xewkija ahead on the 18th and Thierry Tazameta doubled the score when he converted a penalty on the 35th. Miguel Montano pulled one back when he converted a penalty one minute from time.

Ghajnsielem were held in a 1-1 draw by Oratory Youths in another match on Sunday. Anderson Mendes Ribeiro put the Youths ahead one minute from the end of the first half but nine minutes from time, an own goal by goalkeeper Leonard Camilleri allowed the Blacks to level matters.

On Friday, St. Laurence Spurs collected their first point in a goalless draw with Kercem Ajax.

Xewkija lead the way with ten points, followed by Victoria Hotspurs on 9, Ghajnsielem 8, Kercem 7, Oratory 4, SK Victoria Wanderers 3 and St. Laurence 1.

In the Gozo Football League Second Division, Xaghra United moved five points clear after beating Munxar Falcons 5-0. An own goal paved the way for Xaghra on the 12th. Joseph Xerri doubled the score on 37 minutes and Marvic Grima made it 3-0 seven minutes in the second half. Daniel Bartolo added another two goals on the 70th and 87th.

Nadur Youngsters move second thanks to a 3-1 win over Qala Saints. Brandon Said notched a hat-trick scoring on the 6th, 38th and 81st with Alan Cini scoring a consolation goal for Qala on the 71st.

In another match, Gharb Rangers defeated Zebbug Rovers 2-0 thanks to goals by Justin Azzopardi on the half-hour and Sylvan Galea on the 74th.
