Ghajnsielem beat Kercem to keep the pace with leaders Xewkija

Ghajnsielem maintained their unbeaten record in the Gozo Football League First Division as they defeated Kercem Ajax 3-2 on Sunday.

Claudio Antunes converted a penalty on the 17th to put Kercem ahead but after having a player sent off, they conceded the equaliser when Joseph Vella converted a penalty on the 33rd. Joseph Vella made it 2-1 for the Blacks four minutes in the second half and Dhonatan Santos Da Hora increased the lead further on the 62nd. Claudio Antunes scored another penalty on the 71st to reduce the gap.

Champions Xewkija Tigers defeated St. Laurence Spurs 4-1 in another match on Sunday. Thiago Melo Dos Santos put the Tigers ahead on the 8th and although Sunday Baala equalised on the 34th but four minutes in the second half, an own goal restored the lead for Xewkija who moved 3-1 ahead thanks to Chris Camilleri on the 73rd before Daniel Bogdanovic sealed the issue with a fourth goal five minutes from time.

On Friday, Oratory Youths defeated neighbours SK Victoria Wanderers 1-0 thanks to a goal by Sam Frank Bajada on the 56th.

Xewkija lead the way with 13 points, followed by Ghajnsielem on 11, Victoria Hotspurs 9, Oratory and Kercem 7, SKVW 3 and St. Laurence 1.

Meanwhile in the Gozo Football League Second Division, Xaghra United kept marching on with a 4-1 win over Qala Saints. Malcolm Cefai put Qala ahead after just two minutes but Xaghra turned the score in their favour thanks to a brace by Daniel Bartolo on the 24th and 38th and another by Oliver Farrugia on the 75th and 77th.

Nadur Youngsters maintained their unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over Gharb Rangers thanks to goals by Brandon Said on teh 46th and Brian Meilak on the 65th.

Last week, Sannat Lions defeated Qala Saints 6-0 thanks to goal by Justin Agius on the 7th, Lauran Pisani on the 17th, Eric Gauci on the 21st, Antoine Camilleri on the 38th and 45th and Luke Attard on the 68th.

On the other hand, Munxar Falcons defeated Zebbug Rovers 2-1. A penalty by Mario Azzopardi on the 23rd and a goal by Daniel Pace on the 33rd gave Munxar a two-goal lead with Christian Vella reducing the gap on the 94th.

Xaghra lead the way with 16 points, followed by Nadur on 11, Sannat 9, Munxar 8, Qala 6, Gharb 4 and Zebbug 0.
