BOV Division 1: Spartans keep the pace with leaders Gzira

Hamrun Spartans kept the pace with leaders Gzira United in the BOV First Division as they beat Lija Athletic 4-2 in one of the two matches in programme on Sunday at the Centenary Stadium.

A penalty by Alan Tabone on the 12th minute paved the way for the Spartans who doubled the score on the 36th thanks to Haruna Garba. Saturday Nanapere added another just before half-time. An own goal twelve minutes in the second half put Lija back in contention but Haruna Garba made it 4-1 on the 78th. Three minutes later, Erjon Beu scored another goal for Lija.

In another match, Vittoriosa Stars returned to winning ways as they defeated Rabat Ajax 2-1.
Charles Newuche Nnaemeka put the Stars ahead on the 30th and Milijan Milivojev doubled the score on the 65th with Lawrence Chiedozie scoring a consolation goal for the Magpies three minutes in added time.

Gzira lead the way with 23 points, followed by Gzira on 20, Pietà 17, Senglea 16, Lija 15, Vittoriosa and Zebbug 14, Rabat 13, Melita 12, Fgura 11, St. George’s, Mqabba and San Gwann 6 and Gudja 4.
