President’s Cup sponsored by Coca-Cola in aid of the Community Chest Fund

The Gozo Football Association (GFA), General Soft Drinks (GSD Marketing Ltd), local producers of Coca-Cola, and the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF) announced the first edition of the President’s Cup, sponsored by Coca-Cola – a challenge cup between the MFA Premier Division champions and the GFA First Divison champions.

Hibernians and Xewkija Tigers will be therefore contesting this first edition which will be held on Sunday 27th December at the Gozo Stadium, kick-off at 14:00.

This event is an opportunity for Gozitan football fans and football fans who happen to be in Gozo for the festive season to follow an exhibition match of high level at a time when the championships in Malta and Gozo take a short break.

Xewkija have established themselves as one of the top teams in Gozo during the last season, while Hibernians have some good records in playing at the Gozo Stadium as they have been winners of different editions of the Gozo Cup. Last January, they qualified to the quarter finals of the Malta FA Trophy with a dramatic win over Gozo’s Nadur Youngsters. Both Hibernians and Xewkija Tigers have the potential to produce an entertaining encounter as the two sides have a number of established footballers in local football scene.

The two sides also defend the respective title won last season and will be facing crucial matches when the respective championship resumes. Thus, Hibernians and Xewkija Tigers are expected to aim for a positive result in the Coca-Cola Cup to boost their confidence for the rest of the season. The event, which should become an annual appointment in the calendar of Gozitan football, is also aimed to generate funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund is sponsored by Coca-Cola. For this purpose, all proceeds from the event will be forwarded to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Tickets for the match cost €5, while those who access restricted areas, including all the players and officials, will donate €10. There will be no complimentary tickets for the event.
