BOV Division 3: Dramatic win gives Marsaxlokk sole leadership

Marsaxlokk came back from two goals down to beat Ta’ Xbiex 3-2 to move on top the BOV Third Division table with Attard moving second as both Mdina Knights and Marsaskala dropped precious points in two draws.

At the Charles Abela Stadium, a brace by Matthew Fenech on the 15th and 55th gave Ta’ Xbiex a two-goal lead but John Paul Barbara pulled one back on the 78th and the same player levelled matters on the 89th. However it was not over yet as Dylan Attard made it 3-2 on the 91st.

Attard defeated St. Venera Lightnings 3-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Danijel Vasic put the Lightnings ahead seven minues in the second half but a Kurt Zahra penalty restored equilibrium on the 65th. Leonard Alla made it 2-1 on the 73rd and another penalty by Kurt Zahra sealed the issue six minutes from time.

Mdina Knights were held in a goalless draw by Ghaxaq at the Charles Abela Stadium while Marsaskala were held by a 1-1 draw at the Luxol Stadium. Ian Muscat put Luqa ahead on the 38th but Gilbert Camilleri equalised just before half-time.

Santa Lucia notched the winner three minutes in added time as they defeated Mtarfa 3-2 at the Sirens Stadium. Mohammed Telessi put Santa Lucia ahead on the 12th but Vamuya Fafana levelled matters on the 34th. Santa Lucia regained the lead six minutes in the second half through Telessi but Sacha Cortis restored equilibrium on the 64th. However Diego Cucciardi handed Santa Lucia the three points with a goal on the 93rd.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Dingli Swallows beat Xghajra Tornados 2-0 thanks to goals by Mark Vassallo during the first half and Joshua Sciarrino on the 79th,

Marsaxlokk lead the way with 26 points, followed by Attard on 25, Mdina 24, Marsaskala 23, Dingli 20, Santa Lucia 19, Ghaxaq 17, Luqa 13, St. Venera 12, Kalkara 10, Xghajra 9, Mtarfa 8 and Ta’ Xbiex 4.
