Wanderers steal the show on final day of transfer window

The 19:00 deadline of the January transfer window on Monday saw Sliema Wanderers steal the show with the signing of four new players as they secured the services of Ghanian midfielder Albert Bruce, Brazilian striker Denni Rocha dos Santos, Cameroonian forward Njongo Priso and Malta international striker Jean Paul Farrugia. Brazilian Rafael Rodrigues Ledesma, on the other hand, joins Valletta from Sliema Wanderers.

Meanwhile Sliema captain Alex Muscat opted to stay at the club despite interest from other clubs.

Sliema is the fourth Maltese club for Albert Bruce who arrived in Malta in season 2014/15 to join Qormi, joining Naxxar Lions in January 2015 before moving to Valletta in August. Before moving to Malta, he had a spell with Legia Warsaw in Poland.

Thirty-three year old Denni returned to Malta last summer to join Hibernians but failed to impress, scoring just one in eleven appearances. He had moved to Malta mid-way through season 2008/09 to join Tarxien Rainbows after playing for Newcastle Jets in Australia. In 2010, he joined Valletta where he spent four years, winning all major honours. He left the club at the end of season 2013/14 and played in Bahrain and Iraq before returning to Malta last summer.

Twenty-eight year old Njongo Priso moved to Malta in summer 2007 to join Msida St. Joseph. The following season, he joined Valletta where he spent two years before signing for AEK Larnaca in Cyprus on a one-year loan deal, led by former Valletta coach Ton Caanen. The following season, he made his move a permanent one but mid-way through the season, he was transferred to CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria. In Bulgaria, Priso spent eighteen months. In summer 2013, he joined Petrolul Ploieşti in the Romanian second division where he spent another two years. Last summer, he moved to Hungary, joining Győri ETO but returned to Malta last summer to join Valletta.

A product of Hibernians, twenty-three year old Jean Paul Farrugia made his Premier League debut in season 2008/09. He spent one season on loan with Marsaxlokk in 2011/12 and then six months with Spartak Trnava in Slovakia in the early part of season 2014/15.

Thirty-three year old Rafael Ledesma played for Kaunas and Suduva in Lithuania, Partizan Minsk and Dinamo Minsk in Belarus and Ethnikos Achna in Cyprus before moving to Malta in summer 2014 to join Birkirkara. However at the end of last season, he was released and joined Sliema Wanderers.
