BOV Division 1: Gzira, Hamrun edge closer to promotion

Gzira United and Hamrun Spartans keep marching on in the BOV First Division, moving no less than twelve points and eleven points clear respectively after both registered wins on Sunday.

A goal by Ian Zammit gave Gzira United a narrow win over Pietà Hotspurs at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. On the other hand, Hamrun Spartans scored five in the second half as they beat Gudja United 5-0 at the Centenary Stadium. Jake Grech put Hamrun ahead on the 58th, Mark Anthony Borg doubled the score three minutes later, Haruna Garba made it 3-0 on the 65th with Jake Grech and Saturday Nanapere adding another two goals in added time.

A goal by Francois Guihard enabled Melita to return to winning ways as they beat Rabat Ajax 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium. In another match, St. George’s and Mqabba shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Gzira lead the way on 43 points, followed by Hamrun on 42, Senglea and Pietà on 31, Lija 24, Fgura 23, Zebbug and Melita 22, Vittoriosa, Rabat and Mqabba 20, San Gwann 14, St. George’s 12 and Gudja 8.
