Stephen Azzopardi no longer Sliema Wanderers coach

Sliema Wanderers announced that Stephen Azzopardi is no longer the coach of the senior team but will stay as Technical Director. In a short statement, the club said that the committee together with Azzopardi agreed that he would focus on a holistic review of the whole club’s technical structure as Technical Director.

Temporarily the position of the senior team coach will be taken over by assistant coach Ivan Woods.

This was Azzopardi’s second spell as Sliema Wanderers coach as he led the team between November 2007 and January 2010, winning the FA Trophy and the Super Cup. Azzopardi, who had started his coaching career at Balzan, followed by Birkirkara, had also coach Qormi and Floriana before re-joining the Blues in October 2014.

After finishing sixth last season, Sliema have disappointed so far this season and are currently fourth from bottom after suffering five consecutive defeats.
