BOV Division 2: Sirens edge past Marsa

A penalty by Giovanni Galea ten minutes in the second half gave Sirens a narrow win over Marsa in a clash between the teams in second and third place in the BOV Second Division at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday. A win which puts Sirens back in second place, one point ahead of Marsa.

Leaders Gharghur move two points clear after beating bottom-placed Msida St. Joseph 3-1 at the Sirens Stadium.

Zabbar St. Patrick registered a 4-3 win over Swieqi United at the Charles Abela Stadium.

Kane Micallef put Swieqi ahead on the 4th minute but three minutes later, Samuel Buhagiar levelled matters and a hat-trick by Julio Cesar Martins on the 43rd, 65th and 67th turned the score in their favour. In added time, Swieqi scored twice to reduce the arrears thanks to a Patrick Briscoe White penalty and a goal by Kristian Sultana.

Mgarr United came from behind to beat Qrendi 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Clayton Caruana put Qrendi ahead three minutes in the second half but Kenneth Aquilina equalised on the 78th and seven minutes later, Lazar Doric notched the winner.

Jason Camilleri gave Siggiewi a narrow win over Zurrieq at the Charles Abela Stadium with a goal on the 12th minute.

Jair Nelson Escobar Ortiz and Jamie Mifsud scored twice in the second half as Zejtun Corinthians defeated Kirkop United 2-0 at the Luxol Stadium.

Gharghur lead the way with 43 points, followed by Sirens on 41, Marsa 39, Zabbar 32, Birzebbuga and Siggiewi 29, Zejtun 28, Mgarr 27, Qrendi 25, Mellieha 22, Swieqi 19, Kirkop 18, Zurrieq 6 and Msida 5.
