BOV Division 2: Gharghur beat Zejtun to stay four points clear

Gharghur overcame a stiff challenge by Zejtun Corinthians, beating them 4-2 to stay four points clear in the BOV Second Division.

Gharghur took the lead thanks to Nicky Zammit on the 25th minute but Margeith Siccluna equalised two minutes later and six minutes from the end of the first half, Jamie Mifsud made it 2-1 for Zejtun. An own goal eight minutes in the second half restored equilibrium and four minutes later, Muda Fagbeja restored the lead for Gharghur. Martin Deyanov sealed the issue with a fourth goal one minute from time.

Marsa found no difficult in beating Mellieha 6-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium to keep the pace with the leaders.
Yessous Camilleri put Marsa ahead on the 12th minute and twelve minutes later, Gilbert Martin doubled the score. Benjamin Ayuba made it 3-0 just before half-time and then added another nine minutes in the second half. Jonathan Cutajar reduced the gap for Mellieha on the 58th but goals by Ayuba on the 79th and Timothy Thomas on the 92nd increased the lead further.

Sirens stay in third place thanks to a 3-0 win over Swieqi United at the Sirens Stadium. Lee Joe Schembri put Sirens ahead on the 4th minute. Dylan Pirotta doubled the score on the 27th and Giovanni Galea added another on the 45th.

At the Luxol Stadium, Zabbar St. Patrick beat Qrendi 2-1. Two quick goals by Nikolay Filipov on the 21st and Jean Claude Cesare a minute later put the Saints two goals ahead with Dassier Sammut reducing the gap five minutes from time.

A goal five minutes from time gave Siggiewi a narrow win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Charles Abela Stadium. Charles Newuche Nnaemeka scored the all-important goal.

In the basement clash at the Sirens Stadium, Zurrieq registered a second consecutive win, beating Msida St. Joseph 2-1.

Gharghur lead the way with 49 points, followed by Marsa on 45, Sirens 44, Zabbar 36, Siggiewi 35, Zejtun 31, Mgarr 30, Birzebbuga 29, Qrendi 28, Mellieha 23, Swieqi 19, Kirkop 18, Zurrieq 12 and Msida 5.
