BOV Division 2: Msida St. Joseph condemned to the Third Division

Msida St. Joseph were condemned to playing in Division 3 next season as a 1-3 defeat to Mgarr United leaves them fourteen points behind eleventh-placed Swieqi United in the BOV Second Division.

In fact, Mgarr United came from behind to beat Msida St. Joseph at the Luxol Stadium. Donovan Micallef put Msida ahead on the 8th minute. Gianluca Theuma equalised on the 25th. Lazar Doric turned the score in Mgarr’s favour on the 8th and Daniel Vassallo made it 3-1 on the 88th.

Mellieha collected three precious points in the battle against relegation as a goal on the 90th minute by Ryan Cutajar gave them a narrow win over Swieqi United at the Sirens Stadium.

Meanwhile Marsa closed in on leaders Gharghur as goals by Mark Gauci on the 74th and Benjamin Ayuba on the 86th gave them a 2-0 win over Qrendi at the Luxol Stadium.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Zabbar St Patrick defeated Siggiewi 3-1. Jean Claude Cesare put the Saints ahead just before half-time. Jason Camilleri converted a penalty on the 61st to level matters but Samuel Buhagiar restored the lead on the 70th and Justin Felice sealed the issue with a third goal on the 78th.

Gharghur lead the way with 49 points, followed by Marsa on 48, Sirens 44, Zabbar 39, Siggiewi 35, Mgarr 33, Zejtun 31, Birzebbuga 29, Qrendi 28, Mellieha 26, Swieqi 19, Kirkop 18, Zurrieq 12 and Msida 5.
