Hibernians secure 12th Women’s League title

Hibernians secured the twelfth BOV Women’s First Division championship in the history of the club after defeating rivals Birkirkara 2-0 in a top-of-the-table clash at the Chalres Abela Stadium on Wednesday. A win which puts them ten points clear, with three games to go.

Shona Zammit opened the score eight minutes from time and Shona Zammit doubled the lead nine minutes from time.

Mgarr United defeated Raiders (Luxol) 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium courtesy of Amber Grech (57′) and Brenda Borg (60′) with Rodianne Zerafa reducing the gap seven minutes from time.

On the other hand, Kirkop United and Pembroke Athleta shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Mgarr Ground. A draw which enables Kirkop to join Raiders in fourth place. Leanne Micallef put Pembroke ahead on the 16th and Demi Magrin equalised on the 51st.

Meanwhile in two matches from the BOV Women’s Second Division, Mosta defeated Tarxien Rainbows 1-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to a goal by Francesca Zarb three minutes from the end of the first half while Sliema Wanderers defeated Kirkop United Team B 4-2 at the Zebbug Ground. Eliana Gialanze put the Wanderers ahead on the 20th but Yasmine Ciantar equalised three minutes later. Evelina Jannson restored the lead for Sliema on the half-hour while goals by Janice Pace on the 50th and Jackie Abdilla on the 63rd increased the lead further although Rachel Caruana reduced the gap on the 68th.

On Sunday, goals by Maria Farrugia on the 7th, 14th, 33rd and 73rd, Joselene Gafa on the 16th, Keeva Camilleri on the 48th and 57th and Miriana Conti on the 54th gave Gozo and 8-0 win over Hamrun Spartans.
