FA Trophy quarter-finals get underway on Tuesday

Sliema Wanderers, St. Andrews, Balzan and Tarxien Rainbows seek a place in the semi-finals of the FA Trophy as the four teams will be engaged in the first two quarter-finals at the Hibernians Stadium on Tuesday.

Sliema take on St. Andrews for the second time in four days after beating them 3-1 in a BOV Premier League match on Saturday. This was the third win for the Wanderers over St. Andrews after a 1-0 win in the first round and a 6-1 win in the second.

To reach this stage, Sliema defeated First Division side Vittoriosa Stars 1-0 and Second Division side Gharghur 2-1. The Saints, on the other hand, beat Second Division side Swieqi United 4-2 and First Division side Gzira United on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

In the second quarter-final, Balzan hope to reach the semi-finals of the FA Trophy as they take on Tarxien Rainbows. However their task will be no easy one as they are yet to beat them this season following a goalless draw in the first round, a 3-0 win for Tarxien in the second and a 2-2 draw in the third.

Balzan eliminated two First Division sides to reach this stage as they beat Fgura United 2-1 and Melita 2-0. Tarxien, on the other hand, defeated First Division side Zebbug Rangers 4-1 and Premier League side Qormi with an identical score after extra-time.
