Balzan, Pembroke seek historic place in FA Trophy final

After making it to the semi-finals for the first time in their respective history, Balzan and Pembroke Athleta will be hoping it to do even better by reaching the final of the FA Trophy as the two teams cross swords in the second semi-final at the National Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 17:00.

Pembroke Athleta made it to the semi-finals after defeating San Gwann 3-0, Hibernians 2-1 and Piet&agrave Hotspurs 3-1 after extra-time. Balzan, on the other hand, beat Fgura United 2-1, Melita 2-0 and Tarxien Rainbows 1-0 after extra-time.

Balzan finished fourth in the BOV Premier League after spending time in one of the top three places. Pembroke, on the other hand, finished eighth in their first adventure among the elite.

The two teams met three times this season. Balzan defeated Pembroke 5-1 in the first round, the second round clash ended in a goalless draw with Oliver Spiteri’s side winning 2-1 in the third round.

Extra-time will be played if necessary and if the result is still draw at the end of extra-time, the penalty shoot-out will determine the winner. The winner would face Sliema Wanderers in the final on May 14.
