Darren Abdilla signs new three-year deal with Gzira United

After leading Gzira United to promotion to the Premier League after an absence of thirty-four years, coach Darren Abdilla committed his future to the club by signing a new three-year deal to form part of the Maroons’ technical staff.

Abdilla’s role will change as the club revealed that it will be appointing a foreign coach with Premier League experience.

The foreign coach’s name was not divulged but this is expected to be Branko Nisevic whose contract at Hibernians was terminated with mutual consent.

Darren Abdilla had joined Gzira United mid-way through season 2014/15, leading the club to third place and the Play-Off spot where they lost to Mosta. However this season, they were not to be denied as they claimed the championship.
