Statement by MFA following decision by Court of Magistrates

MFAThe Malta Football Association issued a statement following the decision by the Court of Magistrates on Tuesday which found Malta Under-21 players Manuel Briffa and Kyle Cesare not guilty of the charges brought against them by the Police regarding qualifying matches from the UEFA Under-21 Championship.

The MFA Executive Committee discussed the outcome of the judgment during a meeting which was held today where it was decided to remove the temporary suspension from any activity of football on Kyle Cesare and Emanuel Briffa after the expiry of the period provided by the Law for the appeal and that no appeal is lodged.

“The Association is currently translating into English all pleadings, which documents will be forwarded to the UEFA Disciplinary Department. It will be up to UEFA to decide whether to open proceedings against players of the Malta Under-21 national team within the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body since the games in question fall under the jurisdiction of UEFA.”

“The MFA will continue to work closely with both UEFA and the local authorities and at this stage, will not give any further comments,” concludes the statement.
