FA Trophy: Four Gozitan clubs through to second round

New-FA-Trophy-smallXaghra United, St. Laurence Spurs, Victoria Hotspurs and Munxar Falcons eliminated four Third Division clubs to reach the second round of the FA Trophy as another five first round matches were played on Saturday.

Xaghra United registered a most impressive 7-0 win over Third Division side Mtarfa at the Centenary Stadium. Following a goalless first half, the newly-promoted Gozitan First Division side scored three goals in six minutes between the 58th and 64th as Djibril Cisse Mademba opened the score, Antonio Laskov doubled the score three minutes later and another three minutes later, Cisse Mademba made it 3-0 on the 64th. Laskov scored a fourth on the 70th before the Malian striker scored another three goals on the 79th, 83rd and 87th.

Xaghra United meet Senglea Athletic in the second round.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Kirkop United defeated Marsaskala 4-0 in a clash between two Third Division sides.

Michael Theuma put Kirkop ahead after just five minutes. Fabian Fonseca Rodriguez doubled the score on the 25th and four minutes later, Ronald Spina made it 3-0. Eric Zammit added another fourteen minutes in the second half.

Kirkop take on Pietà Hotspurs in the second round.

At the Kercem Ajax Stadium, Gozitan Second Division side St. Laurence Spurs defeated Third Division side Zurrieq 3-0.

Mohammed Telessi Senussi gave the Spurs a two-goal lead on the 25th and 55th and Charlon Tabone sealed the issue with a third goal on the 72nd.

In the next round, the Spurs face First Division side Lija Athletic.

At the Sirens Stadium, Gozitan First Division side Victoria Hotspurs beat Third Division side Mdina Knights 5-1.

Henrique de Souza Maciel scored two of the goals for the Hotspurs with Jonathan Bajada, Shaun Attard and Joseph Vella scoring the other three goals. Ryan Deguara scored a consolation goal for Mdina in added time.

The Hotspurs will be facing Second Division side Zejtun Corinthians in the second round.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Gozitan Second Division side Munxar Falcons defeated Third Division side Ta’ Xbiex 2-0. Paul Said and Gordan Durdevic scored the goals during the first half.

Munxar face First Division side Gharghur in the second round.
